ABOUT ME
Drawing on over two decades shaping strategy and value creation across complex, multi-faceted, global organisations, David Turney brings valuable experience and insight to companies, their leadership and boards' governance oversight.
In senior and C-level leadership roles with companies that include Toyota Australia, Lexus Australia, and Harley-Davidson, he has led commercially-focused strategy that resulted in revenue, profit and market share outcomes, delivered through aligned executive teams, retail networks, and stakeholder partners across ANZ and APAC.
These experiences have shaped his approach to governance, risk and a strong “tone from the top” mindset, underpinning sound judgment, particularly in steering decisions where risk, strategy, stakeholder engagement and reputational considerations intersect.
David’s perspective is grounded in his marketing career trajectory, and its role as a core driver of enterprise value, connecting customer, brand and capital allocation with long-term, sustainable success and performance. It's from this that his strategic capability is honed, bringing a structured, evidence-led approach to value creation.
His core strengths and areas of value contribution include:
· Strategy and long-range value creation
· Governance frameworks and board oversight
· Enterprise risk management
· Brand, customer-centricity and reputation as value drivers
· People, culture and leadership alignment
· Data insight and performance analytics
He has an active and evolving interest in AI and emerging technologies through the lens of governance, ethics and board oversight, with particular focus on enterprise risk, compliance, workforce and societal impact, responsible adoption, environmental considerations and broader implications of AI for organisations, people and long-term value creation.
David is known for his people-led leadership style, building high-performing teams and fostering cultures where accountability, clarity and trust generate performance. He places high value on creativity and freedom of expression, nurturing environments where ideas can be conceived, incubated, tested, challenged and, at times, fail, recognising that this is often where the most meaningful learning and progress occurs. He has a track record of coaching and developing talent, with a focus on helping individuals and teams realise their potential.
He holds an MBA, majoring in Marketing and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
